When to hire a fractional CMO
You have a good product, sales are moving somehow, but marketing keeps limping. Someone posts now and then, someone else booked a campaign, and none of it adds up to a plan. The question comes up: hire someone full-time, take on an agency, or hand marketing to one person from the outside? Below are the concrete signals that it is a good moment for a fractional CMO.
Six signals that it is the right moment
1. Nobody in the company owns marketing as a whole. You have a salesperson, an assistant and a friendly designer, but nobody thinks about strategy. Marketing happens after hours and without a plan.
2. You spend on marketing but do not know what comes of it. The budget disappears, the invoices add up, and nobody can tell you how many enquiries or sales it produced.
3. You have a great product nobody outside the industry knows about. Sales rest on trade fairs and referrals, while online sits empty. A classic in manufacturing, industrial and construction companies.
4. You are juggling five contacts. An ad agency here, a videographer there, someone else for the website. Each does their piece, nobody ties it together, and you are the project manager, which was not the deal.
5. You cannot afford a full-time marketing director yet, but you need that head. A good full-time CMO often costs the equivalent of 20 to 30 thousand zł a month plus overhead. A fractional CMO gives you the same strategic thinking for a fraction of that.
6. You tried an agency and felt something was missing. Nice graphics, nice reports, but nobody got into your product and took ownership of the result. You were one account among many.
If you are nodding at three of these, it is a good moment to talk.
When it is NOT the right moment
Honestly, because it does not pay off for every company.
- The product is not ready. The best marketing will not sell a weak product. If you do not have product-market fit, fix that first. I learned this the hard way on my own startup.
- You want a one-off. You only need a single campaign or a batch of films? That is a one-off project, not an ongoing director role.
- You already have a strong marketing team with a leader. Then you do not need a second strategic head, you need hands for specific tasks.
Fractional CMO, full-time or agency
Briefly, because each fits a different moment.
- A full-time hire makes sense when there is enough marketing to fill 160 hours a month and you can afford a salary plus tools. You get full availability, you pay the full rate.
- An agency works when you have an in-house person to steer it and you need execution power in one channel.
- A fractional CMO fits in between: when you need strategic thinking and someone who takes marketing on, but not yet full-time. One contact, one invoice, ownership of the result.

How to start
The first step is a free call where we check whether it makes sense at all. Then the first month is a diagnosis: an audit of the company, the competition and the sales process, plus a plan for the months ahead. Only then does the work begin. Ranges and the model are on the pricing page, and the full scope on the Fractional CMO page.
If you recognise your company in these signals, book a call. We will talk specifics about your situation.
